ASIC is Australia’s corporate, markets and financial services regulator.
We contribute to Australia’s economic stability and wellbeing by ensuring that Australia’s financial markets are fair and transparent, with confident and informed investors and consumers.
ASIC is proud to be part of the 10% challenge and we are confident that the enhancement of our current environmental program and new sustainable ICT initiatives will help ASIC meet the 10% challenge. Australian Government agencies are changing the way they manage information and communications technologies (ICT), with the aim being more sustainable use of ICT.
ASIC Environmental Achievements
At ASIC we have a track record for achieving results with our environmental program. We have been measuring our annual megajoule usage on light and power in our tenancies per full-time equivalent (FTE) staff member since 2005-06. From 05-06 to the end of 09-10 we had reduced annual usage per FTE by 24%.
We have implemented numerous environmental initiatives across our offices in the last few years, some of which include:
Default duplex printing and "Follow me" printing which has resulted in a 13% saving in printing costs overall to date.
All printers have the most efficient sleep mode activated.
Greenfleet rating of our cars.
Electronic file storage in the ECM (Objective).
Participation in Earth Hour.
Recycling in all offices is in place.
Sustainable innovations for new office fit outs have included reducing our foot print to maximise efficiency of energy and space (achieved thus far in Sydney, Melbourne and Brisbane) and all ASIC fitout work now includes Low VOC Paints and materials as standard.
Desktop Virtualisation has provided significant energy savings to ASIC. The average standard computer consumes 70-150watts and our WYSE terminals use approx 14 watts. Based on an average cost of power per kWh of 36 cents, ASIC will save $39,000+ per year and have taken this initiative one step further by automatically shutting down computers when not in use.
